Under the Sea

This two tiered cake was made for an "under the sea" themed baby shower. I was sent a picture of the nursery and mimicked the school of fish on the wall above the crib onto the bottom tier of this cake. There was also a blue starfish sitting on the bookshelf, so I made fondant starfish to decorate the top tier. Lettering on the cake read "I've been swimming in your tummy, can't wait to meet daddy and mummy".

The bottom tier was 12" and top tier was 8", both were yellow cake with lemon filling and buttercream frosting.

The inspiration...

The cake...

Very Curious!

This adorable cake was made for Henry's 1st birthday. I made two cakes, one for the guests to enjoy and one for Henry to dig right into! These cakes were designed based on the invitation to Henry's party, which had an image of Curious George looking through binoculars and polka dots.

The sheet cake was a 2 layer 11x15" yellow cake, Henry's was a 2 layer 6" round cake. All decorations were hand piped with buttercream frosting.

Custom Cupcake Tower

I had so much fun making this cupcake tower, it was like arts and crafts and baking in one! My best friend is getting married in November, and her wedding will be decorated with beautiful fall colors.

The cupcake tower is made of cake boards covered in a damask patterned paper and styrofoam dividers covered in satin ribbon. The cupcakes are yellow cupcakes baked in gold foil liners topped with buttercream and accented with deep red fondant flowers.

Summer Shower

Whenever I make a cake for a shower, bridal or baby, I usually ask to see the invitation. You can usually tell a lot about the theme and colors of the event just by looking at the invitation. This shower cake in particular was designed using the invitation.

This is a 12" round cake with buttercream frosting.

The flowers were made of royal icing and vines were piped with buttercream.

Up in the sky!

This two tier cake was created for my friend's baby shower, which was decorated in turquoise and lime green. The nursery is sky themed with stars, clouds and airplanes.

This is a 12" and 8" yellow cake filled with buttercream and sliced strawberries. The tiers are covered in fondant and accented with fondant and buttercream.

The airplane and banner on top of the cake are sculpted from fondant and piped with buttercream.

Oh, boy!

The inspiration for this two tiered baby shower cake was the topper. The black and white checkerboard pattern was made by using thin black fondant cut into small squares. I offset the black and white pattern with baby blue and white daisies, apple blossoms, and primroses.

It's a bird...It's a plane...

It's a Superman cake!

I carved this Superman logo from a 12" round cake and placed it on top of a 12" round cake. It was decorated with buttercream frosting.

Fore!

This 30th birthday cake was made for a golf enthusiast. It was a 2 layer 9x13" yellow cake with buttercream frosting. The Wilton golf cake topper set was used with some customizations. Different shades of green frosting were used for the grass, fairway, and green. The sand traps were made from graham cracker crumbs. The pond is made of blue piping gel.

Heavenly cake

This cross cake was created to celebrate a christening for a baby boy, Henry. A yellow sheet cake was layered and carved in the shape of a cross, then decorated with baby blue buttercream frosting and white polka dots.

Berry delicious.

Berries are naturally beautiful when used in cake decorating, and it doesn't hurt that they taste amazing with buttercream frosting!

I made this cake for one of my best friends, Laura. It was a yellow cake filled with a layer of buttercream and sliced strawberries. It was decorated to look like a white basket holding an assortment of berries - strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

These sweet little treats were made for a clambake. French vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing, sliced strawberries and fresh blueberries.

Go Patriots!

It's autumn in New England. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and the Patriots are in season! These cakes were made to celebrate the birthdays of two Pats fans.

The sheet cake below decorated as the Patriots home field was a spice cake with cream cheese frosting.

The cake below is a 12" cake topped with a helmet shaped cake. Both cakes are yellow cake with buttercream frosting.

I love "Hello, Cupcake!"

I got the idea for these cupcakes from the book Hello, Cupcake! - my favorite cupcake book.

These shark cupcakes were made for a clambake at the beach. The sharks are made out of Twinkies, with fruit snack mouths and mini chocolate chip eyes. Some of the other cupcakes are decorated with schools of Swedish fish, pretzels and gum drop floats, mini doughnut life preservers, and ice cream cone channel markers.

These cute little monkeys were made for one of my best friends, Jamie. She loves monkeys, and everyone loves cupcakes!

Sweet, sweet Holidays

Every year since high school my friends and I have a Secret Santa holiday party. What once consisted of sleep overs and snacks has turned into themed potlucks with the husbands/fiances/boyfriends and the now the kids! I, of course, always bring the dessert. These are some of my favorite holiday themed treats that I have shared with my wonderful friends.

This is a red velvet 8" round cake covered in fondant. I wanted this cake to be whimsical, almost like something straight off a table in Who-ville, so I made it pillowy with white fondant and large fondant balls to border the base of the cake. The top was decorated with a red and green fondant bow with red, green and white fondant ribbons.

A cupcake tower is always perfect for a gathering with family and friends. Cupcakes can be easily displayed to add to the party decor, and you don't really need plates and forks to enjoy them! These were gingerbread cupcakes with buttercream frosting.

Ornaments, snowmen, lights, and holly. Some are decorated with "Happy Holidays", "Seasons Greetings", and "Feliz Navidad".

Snowflake and ornament cupcakes were adorned with silver dragees.

A strand of colorful lights. The bulbs are chocolate covered sunflower seeds.

Cakes in bloom

Back in 2008 I decided to sign up for cake decorating classes at a local craft store, something I had been wanting to do for a long time. I was especially excited to learn how to make flowers, which dress up any cake into something a little more special. These are some of the first cakes I made with flowers.

The cake to the right and below are decorated with buttercream icing with royal icing accents. Some of the flowers shown include daisies, apple blossoms, primroses, daffodils, pansies, violets and chrysanthemums. The background of the cake is a basket weave design.

Here is a cake that I decorated for my sister's birthday. As you can tell, she loves pink! Her birthday is in November, so I chose one of my favorite fall flavors - spice cake with cream cheese frosting. This cake features pink roses, primroses, daisies and apple blossoms with pearl accents.
